Set among woodland and meadow, Cynefin Retreats is an immersive destination offering an incredible indoor-outdoor getaway experience.
Designed with families in mind, our trio of hand-crafted lodges offer generosity of space and connection with nature, whilst only three miles from the historic market town of Hay-on-Wye.
Each lodge sleeps up to 5 + infant, and four legged friends are of course welcome too.
Our vision was to create aesthetically pleasing spaces, enabling design-led parents to enjoy beautiful family holidays together, without compromising on style.
Peek under the stairs and you will find the secret den with nature books, binoculars and wooden toys to inspire creative play. Outside, discover the hand-crafted wooden swings dotted through our woodland, and make memories fairy-seeking in the meadow.
Yet with family life, we know practicality is paramount too. Each lodge is kitted out with stair gates, high chairs, kids crockery, and BabyBjorn travel cots. With blackout blinds in all bedrooms, we hope to enable a restful slumber for all.
Each lodge features two spacious bedrooms with vaulted ceilings, each with the option of either a super king size bed or twins. The family bathroom has a ginormous standalone bath and a separate waterfall shower.
From the open plan kitchen, living and dining room you look out through expansive glass doors to a private decking with your own hot tub, and beyond to the spacious terrace with fire pit and BBQ grill.

Booked this for my girlfriend’s birthday on a whim after liking the look of the cabins, the reality was far better than expected, it was wonderful, beautifully designed and lovely to stay in. The hot tub was excellent and the view in the morning was sensational, I hope to be back.
We had a fantastic time at the retreat, we were lovely and cosy and had more than everything we needed. The dog loved it too. Will definitely be visiting again. My advice is to just book as you will LOVE it! Perfect place to de-stress.
