Unique Luxe-pods on the Welsh borders
Set among woodland and meadow, Cynefin Retreats is an immersive destination offering an incredible indoor-outdoor getaway experience. Here, the true luxury is living and breathing this idyllic Welsh borders landscape, from the comfort of your handcrafted luxe-pod.
Offering the ultimate in contemporary living, our four pods are purpose designed for couples seeking a unique escape in a stunning countryside setting, yet only three miles from the historic market town of Hay-on-Wye.
Our four luxe-pods offer stylish, modern living, with iconic curved walls to the rear and wall-to-ceiling sliding glass doors to the front, with uninterrupted views to the countryside.
Each pod features an en-suite bedroom with romantic floating bed, adjoining a spacious, open-plan kitchen/living/dining area. With both a wood burning stove and luxurious underfloor heating, uniform warmth throughout the pod is guaranteed. An adjoining cloak room for boots, coats and other bulky items ensures your pod can remain uncluttered.
Sliding glass doors open to a partially covered wooden deck, with private hot tub enabling an easy transition between indoor and outdoor living across the seasons, whatever the weather. Beyond the deck is a spacious terrace with dining and lounging furniture. Each pod has a bespoke fire-pit with BBQ grill perfect for sizzling sausages and toasting marshmallows.

Where Luxury Greets Nature
By day, breakfast in bed watching the sun come up on a crisp winter’s morning, take a picnic lunch in the meadow on a balmy summer’s day, or supper on the terrace watching the sunset.
By night, cosy up on the sofa with the log burner glowing and a good book in hand, or embrace outdoor living toasting marshmallows by the fire pit or enjoying Prosecco in the hot tub looking at the stars.
Throughout the day, across the seasons, let this extraordinary landscape soothe the senses and rejuvenate the spirit.
Surrounded by Corsican pines, wild flowers and orchards, our pods sit within a seven acre haven in the Wye Valley. Our meadows and woodland create a natural habitat for local wildlife including badgers, foxes, and a plethora of birds.
Being located on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park - one of only five locations worldwide with a ‘dark sky’ status due to its low light and air pollution - Cynefin makes for a fabulous spot for star-gazing.
Walking opportunities are right from your doorstep, with a public footbath bordering the site, leading up to the hills and down to the river, and connecting with the Wye Valley Walk and Offa’s Dyke, which are both close by.
On site is an ‘Honesty Stall’ with a few offerings of quality, locally sourced produce to replenish your stocks should you run low. The home-made artisan marshmallows are a particularly popular choice for toasting round the fire pit!
For anyone wanting to get ‘out and about’ there are a wealth of options nearby to explore. We are fortunate to have Hay-on-Wye, the ‘Town of Books’, famous for its Literary Festival just three miles up the road. And, of course, the great outdoors beckons! Wild swimming, canoeing, trekking, cycling, and horse-riding are all within easy reach.
As dog owners ourselves, we understand that dogs are part of the family, and your four-legged friend is welcome to stay in either of our two dog-friendly pods- Rowan and Hazel. With footpaths leading right from the doorstep, Cynefin Retreats makes for the perfect dog-friendly getaway. We ask that any guests with a dog follow standard etiquette, ensuring they are well-behaved, and are supervised when outside and are not allowed to roam free.
